Opal. Wow Opal what a great effort on your Writing Rocket. You earnt both Stars because you wrote the most words and you also made the most progress, writing 10 more words than the previous week. You are half way to 100 now. Congratulations Opal on writing 50 words in 10 minutes. Great job.

What super writers in Room 5

We have been working really hard on our writing and some of us are becoming more independent by having a go ourselves. Here Louis and Isla are working hard to record the sounds and the words that they need in their stories. Fabulous effort both of you. You make Mrs Scott very proud.

Our First Aid Training

This week we were very lucky to have some First Aid training from St Johns. We learnt about the 3 different emergency services we have in NZ and when we might need them. We looked at some photos and worked out whether we would need the Police, Fire or Ambulance to help us in that situation.

Then we learnt how to ring 111 and what to say to the operator. We even got to practise.

We are going to be learning our address and our phone number in class. We finished our learning off with a story.

Thanks for teaching us how to call for help in an emergency St Johns. You were great.

Our Rocket Writing Stars for Term 1 Week 11 and Term 2 Week 1 were.......

Our Star Rocket Writers for Term 1 Week 11 were Opal and Zack. Opal got the star for being the Leading Rocket and Zack got the star for making the most progress. Fabulous effort you two, you are zooming off in your rocket ships.

Kaylee was our Star Rocket Writer for Term 2 Week 1. She got both stars - she was the leading rocket and she also made the most progress. Way to go Kaylee. I wonder who it will be this week?

Our lovely student teacher Miss MacLeod

For the last 5 weeks of Term 1 we were very lucky to have a student teacher in Room 5. Her name was Miss MacLeod. We all thought she was great. She helped us with our learning and she was very helpful to Mrs Scott as well. We felt sad when her time was up. We hope she will come back and visit us. We know she will make a great teacher when she has completed her training. Here she is with us on her very last day in Room 5. Thanks Miss MacLeod, we really enjoyed having you in Room 5.

Anzac Day Wreath

On the last week of school in Term 1 Room 5 made poppies to put together to make an Anzac wreath to remember all those who went to war for New Zealand. We remembered those who were lucky enough to return home and those that didn't. We also made a poppy to wear at the Anzac Service that we had as a school. Opal and Olivia carried up the wreath as a Remembrance to all those very brave people.

Some of us chose to leave our poppies beside the crosses of some of the fallen soldiers that we had displayed at school.
