Another fish caught in the 'Sight Word Net'
Congratulations Leon for completing all your sight words. Your fish has been caught in the net. Look at all the words on the fish you can now read quickly and accurately. Super job, well done!!
Seasons
Each morning when we complete our Calendar we also talk about the seasons. Room 5 know we are getting very close to another new season. We also know that we call the Season 'Autumn' instead of Fall.
Days of the Week
We have been learning the days of the week. Room 5 found these songs that they like to sing.
Tom, "The Star is Born'
Thanks Tom for being a super 'Star Is Born'. You could tell us about the photos you had bought along to share and I loved having a play with Jessie and Woody. You had already organised some of your thoughts when it came to writing your acrostic poem Tom, which made it so easy for the rest of your classmates. Well done Tom.

Rocket Writing for Week 3
Charleigh "you go girl". What an awesome week with your rocket writing. You wrote 61 words and improved your best previous score by 12. This was a fantastic result. You earnt both Stars - the Star for "I am the leading rocket" and also the Star for "I am making the most progress". Here you are with your Stars
Here are all those words you wrote
Here is your rocket hanging proudly on the 3rd umbrella. Perhaps Mrs Scott had better start searching for a 4th umbrella???
A special mention to Olivia and Tom who also made a fantastic effort with their Rocket Writing too. They both improved their previous scores by 11. Great effort you two - very well done indeed! Here you both are with all those words you can write.
Vinny was our Star Is Born
Vinny thanks for being Room 5's 'Star Is Born'. You enjoyed sharing your things with the class and they had no trouble in quickly writing your acrostic poem because they knew lots about you.

Ed and Hilary went to Karamea
Who has been to Karamea? Ed and Hilary have now too!! Charleigh asked if she could take Ed and Hilary for a special weekend up to Karamea with her family. They had a fantastic time. Thanks for showing them more of the beautiful West Coast Charleigh and for sharing their adventures with us. They loved it!
Our Phonics Learning
One phonics group has been learning about the short 'a' and 'o' sound in the middle of 3 letter words. Each phonics session we finish off with a dictated sentence that we have to write. Here are some of the examples from today. We are learning to remember that a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a fullstop and that we need to leave finger spaces between words so that our sentence can be easily read.
Another phonics group is learning the letters of the alphabet and the sound that each letter makes. For the last two days we have been working on the letter n and learning how to write this letter - short stick, tunnel. Look at how clever we are writing this letter.

Why was Rhys squealing on Friday afternoon?
On Friday after lunch Rhys was sitting on the mat when he began to squeal. Just before Mrs Scott went to remind him about using a quiet voice in the class she looked on the mat and saw why Rhys was squealing. Rhys had a friend that had jumped onto his track suit pants when he was playing in the fort at lunch time that wanted to come into Room 5 for the afternoon. Mrs Schroder happened to come in to visit Room 5 and she took Rhys's friend back with her to the fort where he belonged.
The Trophy winners for Week 2 were.........
Well done to Renny, Rhys and Olivia who were the trophy winners for Week 2. Renny had a fantastic 1st week at school and is already demonstrating lots of qualities of a great learner and Rhys and Olivia made me so proud with their independent writing this week. Well done you 3 - super work!!
The Rocket Writer for Week 2 was...........
Leon. Well done to you Leon. You wrote the most words this week. You wrote 1/2 of 100 - 50 words!! You got both the stars - the Star for being the Leading Rocket and also the Star for Making the Most Progress. Well done. What will you be able to do next week??
Ed and Hilary's Weekend with Charleigh
Last weekend Charleigh took Ed and Hilary home with her as they hadn't been to visit her new house. While they were there they sure were busy. I think it was their first experience in a loader, they hadn't made slime before and they have been in trouble but have never played the game trouble. Lucky, lucky bears. Thanks Charleigh for looking after them and giving them a super weekend away from Room 5. Here is the story Charleigh wrote for us.
Charleigh went to Karamea this weekend and asked so nicely if she could take Ed and Hilary with her. Another new place for them to visit. We are looking forward to hearing all about it.
